The Supreme Court avoids taking up a fight over Voting Rights Act enforcement for now
The Supreme Court declined to hear a case that could have further restricted enforcement of the Voting Rights Act, leaving its remaining minority voter protections intact for now. The move comes after the Court has already significantly weakened the landmark civil rights law in recent years. The legal question is not settled, however, and will likely return to the Court in the future.
