Researchers analyzing DNA from more than 9,000 patients have found that colorectal tumors harbor a distinct microbial community unlike those seen in other cancer types β upending the assumption that all cancers carry their own microbial fingerprints. This makes colorectal cancer uniquely positioned for microbiome-based diagnostics and treatment strategies. The finding could accelerate the development of targeted therapies that exploit the tumor's microbial environment.
